In these uncertain times of economic turmoil and seemingly ever increasing
natural and man-made disasters, people are looking for training and resources
that provide basic and advanced survival skills, disaster and emergency
preparedness as well as survival related equipment.  Nor' Country Survival
seeks to meet this need.
Why we do it:
Nor' is a derivative of North, therefore our name, Nor' Country Survival actually
means North Country Survival.  We are a 100% veteran owned business based
in the state of Alaska specializing in survival and bushcrafting in sub-arctic
boreal environments.

The Nor' Country name:
M. Charlie Thompson has been involved with outdoor skills and wilderness
survival training for more than 35 years after taking his first survival training
course in 1975.

He enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard at age 26 during Desert Storm and quickly
became a Gunner’s Mate and Small Arms Instructor.  He was one of two
armorers at the Coast Guard District 17 Armory in Ketchikan, Alaska where he
also trained Coast Guard personnel pistol, rifle, shotgun and machine gun
courses as well as pyrotechnics.  He was also a nationally registered
Emergency Medical Technician while on active duty.

After leaving the Coast Guard, he put his background, skills and training in
firearms to work and founded Liberty Flag Small Arms Training in 2001.
Recognizing a lack of quality wilderness survival training in rural Alaska, he
combined his firearms skills with his background in survival and eventually
founded Nor’ Country Survival later that same year.

Thompson is former rescue squad chief and is a FEMA certified master exercise
practitioner and continuity of operations planner in addition to being a field
training officer and career law enforcement officer.

Thompson is the author of five books specializing in survival and hunting and
holds MA degree with honors in Archaeology and Heritage as well as a MS
degree in Law Enforcement.  He has lived and hunted with his family in rural
Alaska for twenty years.
